One of the most interesting features of Torredembarra Castle is the groin vaulting with lunettes in the hall. As documented in the construction notes, the renowned architect Pere Blai (1553-1620), the ultimate exponent of Italian Renaissance architecture in Catalonia, was involved in the construction.
The bricks are laid in the Byzantine system known as sardinell (‘rowlock’), a technique that was possibly used for the first time in Torredembarra Castle, as Blai himself introduced this system.
